Gail McHardy, Leanne McCurdy, Wendy Oh, Sharron Healy, Nicole Sweeney, Elaine Crowle
President: Sharron Healy
Sharron first became aware of Parents Victoria, as so many do, during a trying time at her children’s primary school. After attending an information session given by Parents Victoria Executive Officer, Gail McHardy in 2002, Sharron attended her first PV annual conference that same year. Joining Parents Victoria as a member club brought many benefits and information to the school and after attending three conferences, Sharron decided to join the small but dedicated group of volunteers on the PV State Executive in 2005. Like many of the state executive past and present, she had no formal education background (other than having attended public schools) but felt she may have something to offer. And has, since then, given of her time and knowledge and also learnt so much along the way.
In 2010 Sharron became president of Parents Victoria and also took on the position of Victorian Vice President to the Australian Council of State School Organisations, the peak body representing parents in public schools in the national education arena.
Sharron happily continues to serve in both these capacities.
Treasurer: Elaine Crowle
Elaine Crowle joined the Parents Club at Bendigo East PS in 1989 when her eldest child started school. The following year she continued attending parents club in addition to taking on the role of Treasurer at her son's kindergarten and caring for a new baby.
In the early 1990s, Elaine heard about Bendigo District Council, a regional group of the Victorian Federation of State School Parents Clubs (PV's former name) and started attending their activities.
In 1995 when her three children were all at school, Elaine attended her first VFSSPC conference at the North Melbourne Town Hall. The following year Elaine went to conference again and the urge to be part of this group was still strong. She didn't join up at conference but was co-opted onto the executive soon after. Within six months Elaine had taken on the role of Treasurer and in 1999 became the VFSSPC vice president on ACSSO. In 2005 Elaine became President of PV.
Elaine still maintains her enthusiasm for State Education and for the right of every child to have access to quality education that allows them to reach their full potential. Within PV, she currently holds the roles of Immediate Past President, Treasurer and Conference Convenor.
Senior Vice President: Nicole Sweeney
Nicki attended her first conference as a parent rep from Kalinda Primary School, Parents & Friends over 10 years ago. She was mesmorised by the passion of the then committee.
She couldn't believe what the organisation was doing and the importance of their work. She was sitting next to a new friend, another conference delegate, Sharron from Mill Park. They both joined the committee from the floor that year. Education is the source of all our children's life and is so important we get it right no matter who they are and where they come from.
Executive member: Wendy Oh
Wendy is the current President of her local Secondary College Parents and Friends and attended her first Parents Victoria Conference in 2015
As a family who moved from NSW to Victoria she was interested in joining and supporting the college parent group. She was delighted to know there was an active state parent body in Victoria as she was a parent representative at a regional level in NSW.
It was with no hesitation that Wendy joined the PV Executive in 2015 as she recognised the importance of parents having a say on educational issues for parents with children enrolled in our Public Schools.
Executive Officer: Gail McHardy
Gail McHardy has long been one of Victoria's leading advocates for parents of students in Victorian government schools.
Mother of two, Gail's introduction to the education sector was not only as an active parent participant at her own daughter's schools but volunteering and working for the statewide peak body, Parents Victoria. Gail has had many opportunities to share her extensive knowledge, professional commitment, experience and energy with many school communities, future teacher graduates and with other stakeholders across all education sectors. Gail is currently the Executive Officer for Parents Victoria.
Administration: Leanne McCurdy
Leanne joined Parents Victoria around the Year 2000 as a temporary Administration person - to fulfil the specific task of assisting with Parents Victoria’s Annual Conference. It was for a five week assignment but she was inspired, and invited, to stay.
Being an active parent participant and helper at her children's primary school, and then joining the Parent Club and the School Council at the Secondary College was a great complementary combination of work and family !
