School uniform costs: PV media comment

An article in today’s Age covers examines the cost of school uniforms at Victorian state schools. The article begins, “State high schools are being urged to adopt more generic uniforms and end their branding war with private schools as more families than ever seek financial help.”

The article quotes State Schools’ Relief CEO Sue Karzis, and our CEO Gail McHardy:

Parents Victoria chief executive officer Gail McHardy, who is on the board of State Schools Relief, said if schools were going to have school uniforms, they needed to be flexible with requirements so all children had a sense of belonging.

“Every child has the right to access a public education without any additional challenges due to their family socioeconomic status,” she said.
