Parents Voice in Government School Education

Keeping parents informed via social media

We’ve noticed that some Parent Clubs are doing a great job of using their social media pages to inform and support their school communities. Here are a few examples:

  • St Arnaud Primary Not just fundraisers; this club has used its Facebook to introduce its new Committee and tell parents about a ‘structural literacy’ information session at the school, among other things…
  • Rainbow P-12 Career opportunities and information, an advanced driver course, how to create a calming after-school routine for kids – there’s lots of useful info for parents on this Facebook page.
  • Cobram Primary This page has plenty of followers, for good reason – it has notices of Parent Club meetings, safety warnings about parking and school crossings, a reminder about a coming pupil-free day, plus lots of promotions for the fun events the Parent Club runs.

We’re sure there are lots of others! Let us know if you’ve seen a great example of a Parent Club using social media. Email our Communications Officer Alan Davies at alan@parentsvictoria.asn.au
